Our History

The University Writing Center opened in the fall of 1984 as "The Write Stuff."  In the previous year, the Writing Director had proposed the creation of a writing center as a means of improving students' writing. As outlined in that proposal, the center was to be a space that would serve as a center for the university's community of writers. It would enter into a growing tradition of such centers that shifted focus towards dialectical discovery and discussion of writing as an essential component to the life of all writers, regardless of ability.

In 2012, the Writing Center moved to its new location in ASBN 100. In 2019, the Writing Center was officially renamed the University Writing Center, so as to better communicate our University-wide (and beyond) focus.
